GeneSet Information

Tier I GS268372 • GWAS Catalog Data for sleep apnea measurement, obstructive sleep apnea in 10,238 Hispanic/Latin American ancestry individuals

DESCRIPTION:

List of positional candidate genes after correcting for multiple testing and controlling the false discovery rate from genome wide association studies (GWAS) retrieved from the NHGRI-EBI Catalog of published genome-wide association studies (http://www.ebi.ac.uk/gwas/). The disease/trait examined in this study, as reported by the authors, was Obstructive sleep apnea trait (average respiratory event duration). The EFO term sleep apnea measurement, obstructive sleep apnea was annotated to this set after curation by NHGRI-EBI. Intergenic SNPS were mapped to both the upstream and downstream gene. P-value uploaded. This gene set was generated using gwas2gs v. 0.1.8 and the GWAS Catalog v. 1.0.1.

TITLE:

Genetic Associations with Obstructive Sleep Apnea Traits in Hispanic/Latino Americans.

JOURNAL:

American journal of respiratory and critical care medicine Oct 2016, Vol 194, pp. 886-897

ABSTRACT:

Obstructive sleep apnea is a common disorder associated with increased risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and premature mortality. Although there is strong clinical and epidemiologic evidence supporting the importance of genetic factors in influencing obstructive sleep apnea, its genetic basis is still largely unknown. Prior genetic studies focused on traits defined using the apnea-hypopnea index, which contains limited information on potentially important genetically determined physiologic factors, such as propensity for hypoxemia and respiratory arousability.
