Gene set has 67 genes associated with nicotine abstinence. Backgound: In this study, genome-wide association studies are conducted for two human cohorts, one group demonstrating nicotine dependence, and another that successfully quit smoking. The study shows that some genetic components associated with ability to quit overlap while many do not. To perform the study, DNA samples were obtained from NIH volunteers and allelic frequencies of the samples were analyzed using Affymetrix array analysis. Table S2.

Hippocampus Gene Expression Correlates for ACTITOT_ETHA measured in BXD RI Males obtained using GeneNetwork Hippocampus Consortium M430v2 (Jun06) RMA. The ACTITOT_ETHA measures Total distance traveled (cm) following ethanol under the domain Ethanol. The correlates were thresholded at a p-value of less than 0.001.

Heterozygote mice from a hybrid cross of C57BL/6J and FVB/NJ had heightened EtOH consumption, preference or blood EtOH concentration compared to either homozygous groups. The magnitude of dominant deviation on Chr. 11, as noted in Fig. 9, was measured after a drinking in the dark paradigm, 24hr two-bottle-choice and subsequent blood ethanol concentration measurement.
